Yanshan University (YSU), co-constructed by Hebei Provincial Government, Ministry of Education, and Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, is a major beneficiary of the provincial investment for constructing national first-class university and world first-class disciplines. YSU is a member of the Cooperation Consortium of Beijing High Technology Universities.

The Rise of YSU
1998—Its administration was transferred from Ministry of Machinery Industry to Hebei Provincial Government and was co-administrated by the central and local government, in which the latter plays the principal role.
2016—As one of the two universities selected by the Ministry of Education, YSU’s engineering majors received the assessment exercises from the international experts of Washington Accord, which supported China to formally join in Washington Accord International Engineering Education Organization. YSU’s 11 engineering majors have achieved the certification of Engineering Education Organization, which indicates that the quality of education in these professions has been internationally recognized and ranked among top universities in global engineering education.
Faculty
YSU encompasses 266.67 hectare of grounds with a total floor area of 1.06 million square meters. YSU now is attended by 38,000 students receiving regular higher education. YSU has a faculty of 3200, 2200 of whom are full-time teachers including 481 professors (including 328 doctoral supervisors) and 641 associate professors. Among them, there is one Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, five distinguished professors from the Recruitment Program (Ten-thousand Talents Program), ten distinguished professors from the Changjiang Scholars Program, and 11 winners of the China National Funds for Distinguished Young Scientists.
Disciplines
YSU offers 11 postdoctoral research stations, 14 first-level disciplines authorized to offer doctoral degrees, 1 professional doctoral degree, 30 first-level disciplines authorized to offer master degrees, 17 disciplines authorized to offer professional master degrees, and 64 undergraduate programs, covering 8 disciplines including engineering, liberal art, science, economics, management, law, fine arts, philosophy, and education. YSU has 5 national key disciplines, and 16 provincial key disciplines. YSU’s engineering, materials science, and chemistry rank top 1% of ESI. In the fourth national discipline assessment exercise, YSU was awarded B and above in 8 disciplines, of which mechanical engineering was Class A, the top 10% discipline, and B+ in materials science and engineering, the top 20% in China.
YSU has 17 schools and colleges.
